There are many different styles of yoga and it can be challenging to find which one is appropriate for you. At Himayoga, we focus on Iyengar Yoga. Céline Miconnet, founder of the Himayoga Institute, is a fervent advocate of Iyengar Yoga because of the precise and thorough teachings it offers. Iyengar Yoga is named after its founder, the Indian Master BKS Iyengar.
Born in 1918, BKS Iyengar (BKS stands for Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja) has been devoting his life to the teaching of Yoga for over 60 years. Well-known and respected worldwide, he has travelled and taught throughout the five continents and his books have been published in many languages. The BBC named him the “Michelangelo of Yoga”. Living in Pune, in the South of India, BKS Iyengar founded his school in 1975: the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI).
The postures in Iyengar Yoga are dynamic and precise, and they procure a deep sensation of wellness within the body. Mixing ancient tradition to modern techniques, Iyengar Yoga proves that men and women from all cultural backgrounds benefit from it, and that this age-old discipline offers an efficient answer to present-day challenges. It is universal.
“ Yoga is an art, a science and a philosophy which transforms human life at all levels: physical, mental and spiritual. It’s a practice that imparts a noble meaning to one’s life” BKS Iyengar
